Jessica Duhon: San Diego, CA
San Diego State University – Spring 2014
Jessica grew up in Louisiana in a close loving family. She played high school varsity basketball and softball until one day in May 2003 when she was in an automobile accident that resulted in the death of her brother. Jessica survived but at 16 years old she suffered a spinal cord injury at the T2/T3 level resulting in paralysis. That didn’t stop her from helping out with coaching duties or graduating with her class as valedictorian. In 2008 she transferred from Louisiana State University to Cal State San Marcos so that she could attend Project Walk. She completed her bachelor’s degree in 2011 and moved on to San Diego State University to pursue a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Science. Jessica is the first Swim With Mike scholarship recipient to attend San Diego State and joins the many other San Diego members of the Swim With Mike family.
